Experimental Fashion Exhibition run by real pioneer
March 10th will mark a breakthrough for the Fashion and Textile Department at Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an experimental fashion exhibition organized by its students will be held at the Resource Centre. The event is the department's first time to allow graduates to work out their creativity independently, and to make every single decision throughout the project on their own.
Li Ka-wing, who is the pioneer of the project at the department, had in her mind the idea of organizing a fashion exhibition ever since she knew she was going to do a project this year, which is a compulsory project required by the department. What past students traditionally do in their project are academic researches, which are mainly in essay form. Ka-wing, with her enthusiasm in design and creation, was not satisfied with the old form of doing the project, and finally came up with the idea of creating her own fashion exhibition. Thank you for her supervisor, Paulene Hsia, who support the concept from the beginning of the project.
The show will last for 7 days from March 10th to 16th. On the first day, there will be an open ceremony which consists of a short film section and a catwalk show, while on the following Monday to Friday, there will be an exhibition of fashion designs created by students, in both forms of paintings and real fashion products.
The project, named "Illustrations come true", has been a dream comes true for Ka-wing. We can see the originality of the exhibition by the student artists in every part of it. "It is an experimental project," She said. "I want to change the way people look at fashion. Fashion doesn’t only mean a commercial product worn on a model cat-walking. It can be something like fine art, even without a real product."" It is great to make real good products. However, we also can explore new ideas for the presentations of fashion, such as new ideas of illustrations"
There is strong emphasis on "illustrations" of fashion rather than its products, by exhibiting lots of fashion paintings, hung in a way that is designated for some aesthetic meanings. With other specially designed decorations, the exhibition as a whole shows an integrity of artistic creation.
